OBESITY IN CHILDREN

A serious global problem

Did you know that obesity in children is one of the biggest global health issues of the 21st century, and one which affects almost every country? The number of obese children and youths of school age has increased over tenfold in just 40 years, from 11 million to an alarming 124 million in 2016. Another estimated 216 million are considered overweight.

These alarming figures are from a report published in 2019 by the World Obesity Federation. If you’re wondering how the prediction for the future looks, it’s even worse! It projects a continued increase to 254 million obese children and youths aged 5 to 19 by 2030.

To counteract this, in close collaboration with our sister companies SternVitamin and OlbrichtArom we’ve developed several concepts for healthier dairy products and sauces for kids.
Within this “Know-How Connection” we at Hydrosol take care of maintaining the texture and mouthfeel, by working on sugar reduction and fibre enrichment. The experts at SternVitamin handle enrichment with vitamins and minerals, while our colleagues at OlbrichtArom are responsible for kid-friendly flavours.
